I must admit to not being a big fan of Alternate States. I did the post as I see it is important for some people. Your findings do not surprise me, as I can see that the master visualisation would only be in one state, despite where it was placed. My guess is that it inherits from the application state. The only way forward, I would guess is to update the state of your current object to be one state, then add it to a sheet, unlink it, change state and then make a second master item. Name both master visualisations so that it is clear which one is in which state. Hope that helps.

Hi Steve, thanks for your clear explanation.
I am using Qlik Sense desktop and have a filter pane that has been added to the Master Visualizations objects.
I have a sheet that has been set to use the “Balance” state.
My expectation is that when I drag the Master filter pane Visualation (ie a filter pane including balance date fields) onto the sheet that since the Master Visualisation’s alternate state is , that any selections made from it would be associated with the sheet’s alternate state – ie the “Balance” state as it would inherit the sheet’s state.
This however does not seem to happen – i.e. the Master Visualization object does not seem to inherit the sheet’s state. Is this consistent with your experience/understanding?
How can I use a Master Visualization in such a way that it inherits the state of the sheet onto which it is placed?

In reply to Digvijay Singh. Hi DJ. Which selection tool is this? Are you refering to the one that drops down from the button at the top right of the screen? If so, then it doesn't look like this has been implemented yet - keep an eye out on future releases. Qlik Cloud is a good place to see features before they hit the general releases. If it is an extension then it may be some time before it gets fixed, if ever.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for writing excellent details on alternate state. I have one question related to Selection tool. When I make selections in the visualization or in a filter pane which is attached to an alternate state, then Selection tool doesn’t show any selections.
In brief, Selection Bar is showing selections made in alternate state fields but selection tool is not showing them. Not sure if Qlik has something related to this in upcoming releases or I am missing something.
